Installation
Based on which level of construction you are at we recommend using either our Old World Lumber Mantel Straps or the Floating Bracket. The Mantel Straps are best used early on during construction when you do not have any fireplace surround material installed. The straps will be hidden behind your stone or other material. The Floating Bracket can be used at any time but is most commonly used if you already have existing fireplace surround material up like brick or stone.

PRODUCTS
Every piece of natural timber or artifact that makes it from our yard to your home has been inspected and selected right at the source by our team of experts. At Old World Lumber our authentic materials are primarily reclaimed from around the country, with a few collections brought to you from overseas. Now and then we find material that embodies the one-of-a-kind character that we require with fewer years under its belt. Due to the nature of our products we pride ourselves on transparency and make sure our customers know exactly what they are purchasing.
We usually keep thousands of square feet on hand and our products typically ship out of our facility within 48 hrs from the time each order is processed. In very rare circumstances lead times could exceed 4 weeks from the order date. The customer will be notified of any changes to the order.
All lumber materials vary from browns and grays. Any sort of color will involve a range of acceptable colors, as consistent coloration is not a feature of this product. Mixed Species may include Oak, Elm, Hickory, Ash, Maple, Beech, Poplar, Pine, Fir, Spruce, and others. Species mix will be different from batch to batch. Boards can vary in appearance. The opposite face and edges can differ from the featured face in texture, coloring, and other characteristics. If weathered, the weathering will often be different (amount, the mix of colors, etc.) than the featured face. The siding will be random lengths. The buyer understands they must determine which uses are appropriate for each product. Due to the nature of this material final cuts and measurements can be within 1/2" of specified dimensions.
No, our shelves vary in size and weight and do not include mounting hardware.
Fumigation is an important step. Fumigation rids the material from bugs or wood-boring insects leaving you with clean, dry material ready for install. To see some of our other capabilities click here.

Our Solid Wood flooring is 3/4″ Reclaimed Mixed Hardwoods and made for nail-down applications only. Our Engineered flooring comes in 5/8″ with a wear layer of 4mm. Your professional installer may place engineered flooring directly over your subfloor. Note: A sufficient moisture barrier is recommended for all wood floor installations.
Yes, all of our floors are Kiln Dried.
The typical lead time on our flooring is 4-6 weeks. However, due to the current constraints, we are estimating closer to 8-10 weeks. Upon your special flooring order, we will supply you with a more accurate lead time based on current standards.
No. Professional installation is recommended.
If you're in a time crunch please contact us immediately with your order details. We will do our best to meet your time constraints. In some cases, your order may incur a "rush fee" to meet your deadline. If this is necessary your purchase order will outline any additional fees. Call us 713-534-2621 or email us at sales@oldworldlumber.com .
There is a 500 square foot (sqft) minimum on custom wood flooring and paneling orders. Our barn siding is typically sold in 50 sqft increments, but if you need an amount that falls outside of 50 sqft contact us. Wall Plank is pre-bundled and ready-to-ship in 20 sqft bundles.
The answer depends on your space, the product, and your design plans. For a typical installation we recommend you order at least 10 percent extra overage for cutting and fitting. However, if you plan on installing the material in a unique layout (i.e. chevron, diagonal, etc) you will want to add more material for the increase in cuts and waste. Due to the nature of these products you might also consider some extra material as “attic stock” in case of damage.
Reclaimed Beams
Our reclaimed beams have already done their job of holding heavy structural loads for 100s of years. We do not recommend using reclaimed beams for structural purposes. Most of our customers use the beams for decorative use, indoors and outdoors.
We have the largest inventory of reclaimed beams in the southern United States. With hundreds of beams in stock between our Houston and Dallas locations, we can cut, pack and ship them directly to your job site. We will work with you to help you achieve the look you want, no matter where you're located.
We offer a milling process that allows our customers to cover structural or faux beams with our reclaimed hand-hewn beam skins. You can hand select your beams and then we will begin the milling process. Some customers will also choose to use our barn siding material to wrap beams.
